Rain or Shine

Week in and week out, for the past twenty-five years, I have written The Coffeehouse Investor newsletter.

While growing the assets of my financial planning firm (Soundmark Wealth Management) to over $450 million with clients all across the country, I have also found time to write about 1,250 newsletters, and to you, I owe a big “thanks!”

You have taken it upon yourselves to share our simple message with others, and that inspires me to press on. Together, we are helping investors of all ages build wealth, ignore Wall Street and get on with their lives.

As I reflect on the journey we have embarked on together, I am reminded of the importance of my own planning for the future.

At 64 years old, with no intention of retiring, I have made the decision to align with, and be acquired by Edelman Financial Engines.

A leader in comprehensive financial planning and investment management, Barron’s has named Edelman Financial Engines as America’s #1 Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) for the last 6 years.

Soundmark’s investment philosophy, centered around low-cost index and passively managed funds and a focus on comprehensive financial planning, is the bedrock upon which Edelman Financial Engines has built its firm.

Many of you are do-it-yourself investors. Many of you also recognize the benefits of building a team around you to address the complexities of financial planning, including tax and estate planning, as you embrace your retirement years.

Rain or shine, we want to connect with you.

The Barron’s 2023 Top 100 RIA Firms list, an eight-year annual ranking of independent advisory firms, is qualitative and quantitative, including assets managed by the firms, technology spending, staff diversity, succession planning, and other metrics. Firms elect to participate but do not pay to be included in the ranking. Investor experience and returns are not considered. The 2018 ranking refers to Edelman Financial Services, LLC, which combined its advisory business in its entirety with Financial Engines Advisors L.L.C. (FEA) in November 2018. For the same survey, FEA received a precombination ranking of 12th.
